Top Pool Design Trends to Watch Out for in 2016

Deciding to put a pool in for your family home will be one of the best decisions you will make for the new year. Pools are great spaces to cool off, exercise and enjoy spending time with your loved ones. With these 2016 pool design trends, you can stay ahead of the curve in style while still having a beautiful, personal space to enjoy outdoors.

Plunge Pools

If you haven’t heard of this new fad in the water world, a “plunge” pool is for a purpose that is true to its name. While these pools aren’t very long and wouldn’t allow much room for swimming laps, they are deep and great for, you guessed it, plunging. On those especially hot summer days, you can take a dip and relax in your plunge pool, and the best part is that they don’t take up too much room in your yard.

Water In-Transit Pools

In 2015, we saw the rise in popularity for infinity edge pools. However, 2016 pool design trends indicate that water in-transit pools are going to be the next, big thing. Much like an infinity edge pool, water in-transit pools feature seamless edges all around your pool, making it appear as if there are no ends to your water paradise.

The difference with water in-transit pools, as opposed to the infinity edge, is that there is a perimeter overflow surrounding the pool. So while your pool’s edges seem to disappear, the water is really overflowing into a water feature. Don’t fret over the loss of pool water though, as it is recycled back through, keeping your water moving, clear and beautiful.

Natural and Bio Pools

Natural pools were also a big hit this past year, and their popularity will only continue to grow through 2016. With water features, gardens and spas, you can turn your backyard into the oasis of your dreams. Bio pools could be the next addition to these natural pools, as they provide a way to have chemical-free water in your pool, but it is speculated that these pools won’t be mainstream in the United States just yet.

Materials for 2016 Pool Design Trends

Instead of linoleum or tile, natural stone and, surprisingly, exotic woods are making a big splash in the pool design trend world. With these new takes on materials, you can turn your pool and deck into something unique for 2016. Exotic woods bring a rich color and texture to your deck, providing the perfect space to catch some rays, relax and maybe even do some yoga.

Natural stone has been a favorite in 2015, but the use of the material will continue to increase into 2016. This material looks great on built-in fire and water features, as well as incorporated into your outdoor kitchen or seating area.
